Paver Walkway Installation and Construction

With any hardscaped surface proper site preparation is a key (arguably the most important) part in building a great looking, long lasting walkway feature.  If the groundwork isn't completed properly before installing the stone, brick, or pavers then you're going to be unhappy with the results, especially a year or two down the road when the ground settles.

At Scenic Landscaping & Property Maintenance we take the time to ensure our walkway installations are completed to the block or stone manufacturers specifications.  This ensures your new paver walkway looks great, lasts a long time, and the pavers or stone we've used can qualify for the manufacturers warranty.

How Do We Prepare Your Ground For Pavers?

Installing paver walkways isn't rocket science but there are some very specific steps and processes that separate the good installations from the poor installations.

Step #1.  The first thing we need to do is measure and mark the area where your paver walkway will be installed. Using a string line and stakes to mark the perimeter of the area, and spray paint or flags to mark the locations of any corners, curves, or other features along the walkway.

Step #2.  We Excavate and remove existing soil or materials to a depth of 10"-12” based on soil conditions. This provides a strong foundation for the compacted stone base.

Step #3. We Install and compact base materials. 3/4" crushed stone will be installed and compacted in layers to ensure proper compaction. Base materials are sloped away from buildings and foundations for drainage purposes. Next, a 1" base of screeding sand or chip stone is installed directly on top of the compacted base.

Step #4.  We install your new pavers directly on top of the bedding layer. Pavers will be cut to desired layout and around existing obstacles as needed.

Step #5.  We install edge restraints along the outside edges to prevent paver shifting. Pavers are then compacted with a plate tamper to settle the pavers into the bedding laying and create a flat uniform surface. Edge restraint may consist of fiber reinforced concrete or plastic edging depending on the area.

Step #6.  Finally, polymeric sand is swept into the joints to lock the pavers together and create a durable surface. The polymeric sand is then sprayed with water to activate the polymer and ensure a durable joint.

Step #7.  Once the paver walkway is complete, topsoil and grass seed is used to backfill edges and repair any damage made to lawn areas during construction.

As you can see, by spending the extra time on site preparation, you're getting a superior installation that will last and look good for many years to come.
